BIAS WWM Question

I'm looking into ordering a custom 10 foot weight weenie micro hammock from BIAS to replace my ENO doublenest as my backpacking hammock. My question has to do with the width options for the hammock. I am 5'10", so in the e-mail I sent to BIAS I put my desired width at 56 inches. With the slightly shorter length of a 10 foot hammock would this work to get a flat lay or should I go more narrow/wide?

My only hammock experience is with my doublenest, and, while I love the width for lounging, sleeping in it leaves way too much excess fabric.

So what do y'all think?

Wider will definitely give you a flatter lay (than narrower). 56" is probably fine at your height. Common consensus is that a flatter/more comfortable lay is often benefited by length more than width, though.

Is there a reason you want a 10' version? To save weight? Something else?

If it were me, I'd go with a slightly narrow (52" or 54") at 11' over a 62" wide, 10' model (if weight is the only issue).

I have the BIAS WW (not micro) at 11' and LOVE it. That extra length really does the trick.

I am 6' and went with the 56" because I thought the same thing. My next one will be 52" . At 11' it is great for a nice comfy sleep, but a little excess material that I probably did not need... Can not say how it would work with a wide / shorter but I think it makes more sense to go narrower/ longer, but thats just me.

Gotcha. That certainly makes sense... if it were me, though, the bug net extenders would be worth it if it meant keeping the 11 foot length. If you're spending the money to upgrade in the first place, I would go all the way.

I wouldn't sacrifice comfort in the hammock over a bug net. You could easily sell the bug net here on the HF sale forum. Then you could either buy a BIAS or WL bug net, or watch for a used one in the sale forum. If it were me, that's what I'd do.

You guys are a bad influence on me. But in defense of myself it doesn't take much to convince me to spend extra money for a better product (within the confines of what I can afford)... That's a good thing, right?

I just placed my order for an 11'x52" WWM and the LDC Extenders from 2QZQ. I'm excited! I also have a Grizzbeak on order from 2QZQ, and Tim said they should ship together. Now I just need some good rainy weather to go test everything once it gets here!

Try your bug net out with the new BIAS. I use my ENO Guardian bug net with my BIAS WWM. It sticks out the ends about 8" but works fine.

The Bias is so long that narrow is fine
