    which item next?

i need some help making tough decisions such as which piece of gear should i get next? ive been thinking about getting a KAQ Jarbidge but i already have a pad but i really want to try an uq. i was also looking at a WB Superfly tarp, but again i already have a tarp i use but my current tarp is a wallyworld tarp which is very bulky and doesnt pack down at all. both items are pretty close in price and i have both current items just looking to upgrade but not sure which to go with also my wife has a hammock and we have an extra pad but not an extra tarp although im not sure how often she will actually go camping with her hammock so would that automatically call for the additional tarp?

I'd go with the tarp. If you already have a pad and are comfortable with it, then good weather protection is more important. Wally World tarps work ok but as you mentioned they are heavy, bulky and they can spring leaks.

Gonna agree with Bubba. Your backsides are covered get your/her topside taken care of. Then worry about getting Underquilts.

I would go this route as well. However, if you don't have the equipment to make your own (yet), focus on the tarp first. That way, you would have 2 tarps (albiet one an el cheapo), and no excuse for the wife to not come hammocking with you.

If it where me I would go with the UQ first. In fact back in the day that is exactly what I did. When I started off I used a the mythical sportsman guide 9x9 and a Hennessey and a pad. Got a KAQ and then DIYed a tarp. I actually didn't get my first manufactured tarp until 2010. All this taken into account my location. I have only gotten rained on while out on the trail twice. Both times recently and both on purpose. If your an avid hiker your need to stay dry will be greater but if your still working out the kinks a good uq will go a long way toward a comfortable nights sleep. JMHO

thanks for all your opinions, it looks like most of you are saying the same thing and being in florida it would be a little better to have a good tarp and both of us be weather protected instead of me being selfish and get the UQ. thanks again
