Fleece: What, Where, How Much

Looking to buy some fleece to wrap my windshield reflector pad to help with condensation. Where do you guys buy yours? What weight? What Brand? How much $?

Jo Ann's fabrics, you can usually find a sales coupon in the newspaper, 40% to 50% off. Don't know the weight or cost, as it was last year that I bought some. And still have some left for other projects......RR

I bought a fleece sleeping bag from Walmart a while ago. Around $17. When I got the hammock, I slipped the Hennessy Double Bubble Pad (shaped version of the windshield reflector) into the bag and laid down on top of it.

It's also a stand-alone warm weather bag, a sleeping bag liner, and it can unzip to a blanket. Handy.

Check your local fabric store - JoAnn or Hancock - looks like they've both got New Years sales that include fleece (~$4-5/yd). Or you could check the bargain bins at Target, Walmart, Menards, etc. this time of year they'll likely have some fleece blankets on clearance for cheap.

Is polyester an acceptable form of fleece for this use? I have seen some 100% polyester blankets around

I believe most fleece, including the industry leading brand Polartec, is made from polyester.

Polyester is fabric of choice for most things outdoors. Wicks and dries better than cotton and the funk is usually washed away with a rinse of water.

I got a texsport "sleeping bag" from dicks on sale for $12. It's pretty thin fleece. I cut the zipper off, shaped it mummy style and sewed the bottom two feet or so and a foot box. It makes a great bag liner, for very little weight. Some fleece is thicker than others.
JoAnn is great for stuff! They have fleece, rip stop nylon, and all sorts of buckles, ribbon, strap material... Hobby lobby is pretty good too, but JoAnn has a lot more.
