    Thought I'd drop this bomb

I feel that the Hennessy 70d hex tarp is one of the best tarps on the market. It may not be fancy but it's cheap and rugged. While I don't own any other tarps looking at the specs I don't see any on the market that offer anything that much larger.

well, I only have 3 tarps, a superfly, a tadpole and a HH 70D hex. superfly is what it claims, super. its bigger than some apartments I have rented. the tadpole is pretty similar in coverage to my HH, but weighs allot less, and packs to about a softball size. I agree that it is rugged, and the price was half of the tadpole, but it is very heavy and does not pack small enough for backpacking , for me anyways. It will be my main tarp for car camping though

There is a reason so many different tarps (or stoves, or hammocks, etc...) are available and used. That reason is there is no perfect piece of gear, only what is perfect for you. Glad you found your perfect one the first time. Though I have a inkling that in a few years you will likely be singing the praises of a different tarp; it just happens.

Dogs of War, LOL! Maybe it's not quite that serious!

Well, I had one and it's a pretty good one indeed. But I found - at least several years ago - that there were spec errors from HH and it was not as big as the several oz lighter, 12 ft RL 30D sil-nylon Hex, which the specs said it was. I think mine only had an 11 ft RL, actually not quite as long as the Explorer diamond tarp that I was replacing. I notified HH of the mistake in their specs, they said they would correct that but I don't think they ever did. Nope, just checked, they did not correct it and it has been years. But maybe they corrected it on the tarp end, and made the 70D longer? If they didn't, the more expensive 30D id 1 ft longer and 4 oz lighter.

Still, either is a fine tarp. So is my 11 ft RL rectangular shape JRB. Which also has some small cat cuts which really helps in the wind. Neither HH had that.

But I could be happy with any of these tarps. Sometimes I'm even happy with the original diamond tarp, when used with the HHSS. Only 2 stakes!

When i owned only 1 tarp, i too thought it was the one of the best, but that was about 1.5 years and 4 new tarps ago. It is a great tarp though.

Ya that one looks great but I dunno about needing those end flaps... Do you really find them useful?

Bah you crazy weight weenies haha. I dunno the extra cost for the tadpole and the material is so much flimsier, I saw one tear up from a low hanging branch.

I guess what it comes down to is need. I'd rather have something a bit more rugged and take a bulkier pack. But hell, the first weight I need to be shaving off is not my pack weight but some body fat!

Iirc the tadpole weight is 5 oz less then the hh hex. To me that's replacing 8 high calorie meals with a salad! Haha!
I'd love to hear more about your superfly!

The problem is I don't see a next step in my tarp buying... I'm having a hard time finding the pros to any silnylon tarps or any tarp much bigger then this one as it fits sooo bloody well. That's why I wanted to splash the water and see what rolled to the surface.
