    DIY IX vs JRB Jarbridge

Guys. I was at the fabric store today to look at prices for the DIY IX under quilt. This was after looking at http://www.backwoodsdaydreamer.com/for all the raw materials.

It looks like this is going to come out to at least 70 bucks for mats. And I also found that I would rather get the mats from backwoods than the fabric store.

With the JRB ringing in at $100, I find it hard to bring myself to try to learn to sew for this.

So my question is. Are there advantages of the DIY IX over something like the Jarbridge? The JRB folks make it hard to justify DIY.

Outside if the fact that I would learn a little sewing. Heh.

    Thanks

Jarbidge is a great UQ I have one and it is a great value. I was in the same boat, I got mine in the for sale section for $75, and at that price it was a no brainer.

The Jarbridge is a great UQ, I own 3 of them, one Summer Season and 2 of the 3 season.

DIY might not save you any money in the long run when you factor in the cost of materials and your time but there is the satisfaction of making the gear yourself and making it the way you want it.

Def go for the Jarbridge, but AHE not JRB. The Jarbridge is a great price and probably will keep you warm to somewhere below 30F, maybe well below.

Sorry to AHE. Got it in my head that it was JRB for some reason.

So given this information. So it sounds like making the DIY IX would not yield a better product in the end. It would just give some DIY satisfaction.

Yep, or some DIY frustration depending on your learning curve .

compare apples to apples. to build a jarbridge you could buy 2 yards climashield apex @ $30 plus 4 yards of 1.1oz 2nds @ $16 Add in some grosgrain ribbon 6yrds, 2-4 cord locks, and some shock cord. i figured mine will come in at $80 with material left over to make booties. the ahe equivalent is $150 with apex...

I don't think the IX will be as warm. Sewing is a fun skill, but if you're just starting DIY, I'd start with an easy entry project like a stuff sack.

Not to hijack this thread, but does anyone know how thick the 3-season jarbidge is? I just bought one from the "for sale" section here, and it is lighter and thinner (around 2-2.5 inches thick I'd say from memory) than I was expecting. It also seemed a thin in some spots like there was almost no insulation. Keep in mind that this is my first underquilt and I didn't know what to expect.
