    Best winter Cuban tarp?

First off happy new year! my birthday is coming up, and the wife and family see teaming up to get me some winter gear! I would like a tarp like the superfly but in Cuban fiber. I know zpacks makes one but there a possably cheaper alternative other than diy?

Winter Palace by HammockGear.com .... I have the standard with doors and I love it. Can't go wrong with gear from Adam and Jenny!

2nd on the Winter Palace by HG. Zpacks Cuben with doors is a very nice tarp also but shorter on the sides by about 12" on each side. Makes a big difference in winter conditions.

The HG Winter Palace is close in size to the Warbonnet Superfly and both give great coverage.

Ditto. Just wish I could afford to get one of the new camo Cuben tarps they are making.

Is that tarp hard to get a tight pitch with? I really like the superfly with the cat cut edges which make it simple to get tight. I see this one has straight edges, any problems there?

Cuben Fiber is a different material than Silnylon of the Superfly. It doesn't stretch so you can pitch it tight to begin with and it will stay tight all night without needing to readjust.

Yes, but is it easy to get a tight pitch to begin with? Or does it take some time to get it just right?

Very Easy! Just tighten as you put it up and its tight till you take it down. I have straight cut 12' long with doors from HG, and their Cat Cut 12' long with doors as well. Both are easy to hang. The straight cut has a middle tie out and the cat cut doesn't need it, but alot of times I don't even stake the middle tie out out as sides pull tight as you put it up.

I had an HG 4S CF tarp (6.5 oz), but am upgrading to the HG Winter Palace. It's all I want in a tarp and only 8.5 oz. I haven't seen the CF Camo, but I'd take the hit for the extra weight (10.5 oz).
