The one thing I hate is breaking a daily tent camp in the rain. It looks as though you can stow the hammock while it is under the tarp and just fold up the wet tarp to be dried later.

Yep, you can grab it by the middle of the wet outside and sort of wad it up and the inside/bottom of the tarp will stay sorta dry. I carry my tarp in an outside pocket. My next project is to sew a ULA style mesh pocket on the back of my Granite Gear Vapor Trail for my tarp.

Yep. And my suspension systems can generally disconnect right at the hammock. I can even leave the wet straps outside and pack only the hammock/underquilt if I want to. Never had to do it that way, but it's an option.

Has anyone tried the Blackbird's shelf w/o using the tie-outs? I almost never use the tie-outs on my HH or El Dorado, and I'm wondering if the stuff in the shelf would bang into me if I don't use them on the BB.

I've thrown stuff in the shelf without tying the BB out and don't remember it hitting me. Since you're laying on a diagonal, the shelf is about as far from your right shoulder as possible.

I think I'm getting one...I sent him a PM for a price quote if I send him the fabric. Just waiting for him to get back from the holidays and respond.
