dp Cuben CTF3 and Silnylon Hybrid Tarp

I just took delivery of a new tarp that I have never heard anybody talk about. It is a dpenigineering Cuben CTF3 and Silnylon Hybrid Tarp from http://www.dplightweightbackpackingg...rotection.html

I got it on a Christmas deal for $100. Talking to DP Dave was a little rocky at first, but I think that I have found a kindred spirit after talking to him for a while.

It is CF on top with no ridgeline seam and silnylon on the sides.

On first inspection, it looks good to me. It weighs 8.8 oz with tie outs and included suspension.

Manufacturer's Specs: weight: 9oz dimensions: 9' 6" long at the ridge line, 8' 4" at the sides bottom, and 7' 10" overall width. My initial measurments concur, besides it being a little lighter than listed. (I will not complain about that) The 6 included Ti stakes weigh 1.1 oz.

It is a fairly small tarp, but I am hoping it will be perfect for my wife's rig.

After I set this thing up, I will report back with photos and evaluation.
I am quite excited to have a Cuben/Sil tarp at around the same price as a sil tarp, but we shall see how it goes from here...

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I hadn't seen a cuben fiber/silnylon hybrid before.

    a few pics

Well, I got a chance to get a look at the tarp today. I pitched on my lunch break while eating a Clif Bar, so it is not that great of a setup. I was also in a protected valley that has a DEEP duff layer so the stakes were not grabbing as they should. This would pitch pretty tight if I had brought some groundhogs... The tarp ridgeline was easy to set up, just 2 prusiks with teeny hooks that were actually pretty strong. I thought that I would bend them, but they did not give at all.

I set it up in storm mode, porch mode, and with the hiking pole in one of the grommets and I think the size is adequate for the hammocks I planned on using it with. Ask me again after the first torrential rain...

I only took photos of porch mode because my 30 minute lunch was very short. More later...

I had seen that website but obv missed the $100 deal.
For $200, I think it's a bit pricey for the hybrid; might as well put the
extra bucks in for a full CF tarp.

Thanks so much for the pics.
    Looking good....

I'd be curious how a hybrid performs in a down pour over an extended period. The Cuben won't stretch but for sure the Sil nylon does stretch when wet. Not sure it'll even be an issue but would be interesting to hear some first hand experience with that.

WARNING: Will discuss Rhurbarb Strawberry Pie and Livermush at random.

    Hybrid fabric engineering ...

    Hawk,

Glad you brought the different fabric features up.

CTF3 Cuben = very little stretch

Silnylon = stretches, especially when wet

We have found this pairing wonderful as the Cuben is WATERPROOF and without an above seam anywhere a leak would drip on one's hammock.

Plus, the Silnylon stretching acts as a small shock cord/absorber.

I want to share here, we've argued our engineering in a previous thread a year or so ago and all it did was become a shouting match. Bottom line with our engineering is ... All of our products have been tested multiple times and we like them.
