    Liberating down

Long ago and far away, there was a DIY on how to vacuum down out of an old item with a minimum of fuss.

It seems a vacuum was involved, but the details elude my memory. Can anyone direct me to it?

A small animal of some type has eaten it way into my old army extreme weather sleeping bag. It was way to heavy for anything but car camping anyway, so no big loss.

I figure to convert it into a top quilt. Even though it's got a pretty high % of feathers, it should make a fine top quilt for down to freezing +/-

thanks. I got to the second link.

Wouldn't you know it. Just Jeff is the source. He and Risk were my main sources of info when I began this hammock adventure 6 or 7 years ago.

And I just got a large shop vac for Xmas.

    Reusing Down

I've got a "Down" Tent, Shop Vac & Earmuffs. I always hate doing it, but enjoy the $ savings it can bring you.

If you only have a 1.5" diameter hose, you can easily make an attachment. I took a powerade bottle and cut it off where the side begins to become straight. Tape a piece of no-see-um over this opening. The bottle opening fits perfectly onto the end of the hose. You can suck up a fist size amount of down using this homemade piece. Keep the vac running and scrap the down off with your fingertips into your palm. You can catch any fly aways with the vac.
