Wink ~~~ A 63 Feet High Refreshing VIDEO!

63 Feet is my new record and I got the adventure on video! PLUS I finally have a hammock photograph that tops my favorite tent photograph (the one above )!

Click the box below for the video. (I spend all of my money on climbing trips so this isn't "GoPro" quality.)

Peeing while wearing three layers plus a harness and balancing on a tight rope in windy 5° weather at 3:50am is not easily accomplished. I have a smirk on my face in the following photo because after trying to hold it for two hours I made the executive decision to go for it. I was successful.

The squirrels usually leave me alone except one time when this super fat squirrel (I will refer to him as Chunkers) snuck up on me. He was waddling across a branch when he realized that I was in the tree about 15 feet away. Chunkers didn't like me in his tree so he sat there squeeking at me for about 60 seconds. I think he got the vibe that I was going to defend my walnuts to the death so he finally ran off.

Oh Yeah!...Got to save the walnuts.

Thanks for the vid. How about some info for the uneducated (but very curious) like me. How do you start a climb? Throw a rope up? Etc., etc.

Now that I am sitting in a heated and well lit room I look back and wonder how the hell I did it. I mean, it was dark, cold, windy, every move I made put snow down my neck, my harness lifts my jacket making wind drifts unbearable, dealing with frigid biners/ascenders/tools, trying to hold onto a snow covered tree, frozen fingers, and triple checking every knot everyminute to make sure I don't hang on a rope tied to a dead limb. Out of habit I even put a biner in my mouth and my bottom lip stuck to it , that was dumb, haha. It is like the whole thing was just a dream and I call it fun?

Yes. Whenever I post canopy camping pictures I get asked different questions about gear, technique, etc. I have been pondering writing a tutorial that describes essential gear, prices to start off, where to begin, climbing techniques, safety, and how much effort specific things require. If more people speak up I will definitely post a tutorial. With big trees like this one can't just climb limbs of course. I use a small (2 mil?) cord with a weight and place it over a branch with varying throwing techniques. Then I pulled up the main climbing rope. Advancing up the tree can be frustrating to say the least but once there, everything else is easy.
