    Toggles for Marlin spike hitch

    I made a set of toggles today they are the diameter of a #2 pencil and 2 1/2" long . I was wondering if the diameter of the toggle matters ? I just want something to hold the knot(and as small as possible) they are solid stock so I am thinking I can make them shorter any thoughts ?
