    Would this work?

Just a idea... I haven't tried this yet, but I think attaching an old fashion wooden clothes pin (squeeze type with a spring) upside down to the whoopie sling cord right before it attaches to the hammock would be a helpful way to help prevent water from flowing on to your hammock. The compression of the cord by the clothes pin would impede the flow of water further down the cord, and would then channel it down to run off the ends of the two downward hanging "arms" of the clothes pin. Worth a try? What do you think?

Hmm... definitely worth a try. It might work as a drip string.

A small piece of yarn, shoelace, etc. also does the trick.

Have you had problems with water running down your whoopies? I was under the understanding that the extra line running out of the whoopies would direct the water to the ground, but I have zero experience in this so far. Recieving some whoopies soon, so interested in answer. I also bet that your idea would work.

I just tried two different brands of wooden clothes pins on 7/64" amsteel.

The hanging force on the amsteel already has it compressed more than the clothes pin can do, so I believe it is only water on the surface of the rope that we are attempting to divert.

The large hole in the clothes pins are loose on the amsteel and would allow water to get through.

The flat surfaces and small holes of the pins leave gaps at the top and bottom and again would allow water to get through.

The short version...I don't think clothes pins would be a reliable water stop, could be easily lost and they weigh more than the "tried and true" short piece of cord.

Metal hardware like a whoopie hook or drip ring works best.

A small piece of "pack towel" clipped over the line with a clothes pin will catch the water and give you a drip point. Suggest it be at least 1.5 inches wide at the drape point and hang down about 2 inches. Talking less than 1 ounce for both ends of the suspension.
