Has anyone had a problem finding a place to hang when out on a trip?

Yes, lots. I have been motorcycle camping the last few years and found many campgrounds don't have trees. They mow down a field and any trees around are ornamental. Also at the OBX there are precious few trees and none at the campground. I found state parks tend to have trees though. So I am reluctant to take just a hammock on a trip as I have found half the time I could't use it.

Never. I have always been able to find a spot to hang. Be it in a campground...which 97% of the time I work to avoid...to out on the trail in the middle of no where. There are times when you might have to be creative or hang outside of the "optimum" span but it's doable more often than not.

I went on a trip this past summer where I literally showed up to a campground, meet some guys for the first time that I had talked with a little on other forums and they offered to share their camp site. I did not have any idea where I was going to camp otherwise. The one guys starts telling me there is a good spot for my tent on the other side of his....mean while I am eyeballing the trees. He had never seen a camping hammock before and there were only 2 trees at the site that would even kinda work. I ended up with about a 25' span but made it work. Had to explain to him that the ground was for walking on not laying on.

Not really.

Up until earlier this year, it was illegal to hang in FL state parks, so I knew that going in when I was bike camping. Hiking, well, I went to places where I knew hammocking would be okay with the land owners.

Occasionally, the scrub down here is challenging, but it's been possible for me to find a spot so far--even if it takes a little looking to get one that isn't covered in palmetto.

I always carry a small pad with me to supplement my UQ. The pad also act as an emergency insulation if I have to go to the ground

I had my hammock ripped in half on one of my trip and I was glad I had the pad. I was depressed for the rest of the day.

Has anybody have to bail out on a trip because their hammock ripped in half?
