    Red River Gorge backpacking

My new WBRR keeps nagging me about getting out of the house so I'm planning on doing a little backpacking in the Red River Gorge (RRG).

I'm going to try to go either on the weekend of the 11-13th or the 18-20th depending on the weather. If it's going to rain all day or have lows under about 15 I don't want to go. I might go one night or two depending on the weather.

I've led backpacking trips throughout the RRG with three meetup.com groups and have been on almost every mile of trail.

I have an idea of where I want to go but I'm flexible on that.

Let me know if you want to go!

I would be interested in going but no way to get off Fridays this early in the yr

let me get back with you. I would have to leave Friday night after work since it is about a 5 hr drive from Nashville to the rest area on the parkway close to the Shell station

My winter schedule is full but will likely be heading there in March and would love to pick your brain.

OutrageGIS has the best map of the RRG. It includes official and unofficial trails, campsites, and vistas. It can get you close to Cloudsplitter but the trail to it is somewhat hard to find.

    I'll PM you.

I agree that outragegis is the best map, but be careful on the campsites shown on it. We had a ranger visit us and threaten us with a ticket since we were only about 200 feet off the trail, but the rules say 300. I showed him my outragegis map and he said about 80% of the campsites marked on it are illegal. Only the ones on the unofficial trails are legal.
