    Organza Tablecloth Bugnet

More good stuff from Tableclothsfactory? Just tossing an idea out there. I was browsing and they have Organza overlays, measuring up to 108x108 inches. Anybody thought about using this for bugnetting? If it works it looks like a cheap way to go...it'd be the equivalent of 6 yards of 54 inch wide noseeum

So what do you guys think, would it work? Been used before? Seems like it would be very lightweight. Too fragile? Poor visibilty seeing through it? How would it compare to tulle?

Pipsissewa did a video for a design she called the TED bug net using organza. I know she is a fan of it. I think some folks expressed concern that it might hold in too much heat when camping in hot weather. I have a tulle net of her TED design but have not yet used it in hot weather.

It frays and puckers up easily. Not to mention if you're a neat freak it'll drive you crazy, it's hard because organza is so sheer you can see every stitch you make.

I've made 3 bugnets out of organza, and was never dissapointed.

I think the 108 x 108 overlay has a SEAM in it. If you look carefully at the picture HERE, you can see that it's not one continuous piece of fabric, it's pieced together. Just be aware, so you're not disappointed. Good luck!

P.S. Black is the most transparent color in my opinion.

P.P.S. Re-reading your original post, it sounds like you're figuring on using the fabric as 54 inch wide yardage. This is indeed a good price for that much yardage!

I love polyester organza as a bugnet because it's drop-dead bug-proof. NOTHING can get through it, not even gnats or no-see-ums. It weighs LESS than no-see-um netting and I find it easier to sew and MUCH stronger than tulle. Tulle rips easily and you really have to baby it in the field. Polyester organza is tough stuff.

On the other hand, the price of this toughness and bug-proofness is that it does block a lot of breeze also. If you're in a very hot environment, it'll really be very warm. But, for me, that's okay. I'm never camping somewhere that's THAT hot at night. ANY bug net I have--no matter what the design--is going to be out of polyester organza because I'm REALLY AFRAID of bugs!

I did notice the seam, and it made me a little leary...kinda hoping someone might have tried this before and could report on how many seams there were.

My thought was you could fold it in half and do some sort of TED/Fronkey/Bug sock sort of net. With that in mind would 108 inches be long enough? Most other designs seem to use a longer ridge length. The typical hammock has a ridge-length around 100 (120in x .83)inches so that gives you some wiggle room, but is it enough?

I have used both materials, and had good results with them.

My last find was Tulle, previously used as window dressings, but just a long run of fabric about 54 inches wide, green and purple,

I find using a serger machine, (thrift store $15.00), and a rolled seam is the strongest
