Thanks guys. I ended up finding some shower curtain liners for 2 bucks a piece, I'm gonna try using those and see what happens. Like yall say though, I'll probably end up making a few before I get one I'm really happy with.

I assume your hammock is not that long and if not, like less than 11' I would just buy a
Wilderness Logics Tadpole. Good coverage and weighs 11.5 oz for $85.
I dont think you will beat that weight until you get into Cuben Fiber tarps.
I needed a longer tarp, so am building almost a duplicate only 12.5' long. Material cost alone is $55 from quest plus shipping plus a lot of work.
If you need a winter tarp, tackle that later.
That said Loner2012AT (dont know his name here) just did an AT thru hike with a tadpole tarp.
idk, i made mine for around 15 to 20 dollars. works great and held up strong
Yoy can always try making out of the cheapest material you can find...old bed sheets etc to see what works before you need to start on the more exotic materials.
Each material is unique though but it might help you make a few less mistakes and get used to the machinery etc
I am going to tape (sew) two shower curtains together later today, we'll see how it goes! Ill let you know!
I am surprised nobody (including me) mentioned the ultimate cheap and ready tarp: tyvek house wrap.
$20. Or so on fleabay. Cuts with scissors, does not unravel, sheds water, no sewing, and the pebble/string tie out method is as strong as the tarp...
