If you're good at the computer, some moms are pretty impressed by a slide show. It shows your perseverance and willingness to go the extra mile.

You can diy a table cloth hammock for less than $20... Then you can make a turtle dog stand for about $50 with a drill and a saw... And your good to go indoors or outdoors...
Live, Laugh, Love, if that doesn't work. Load, Aim and Fire, repeat as necessary...

This is from djminnesota's blog on hanging outside...

"As your Dad, I had some reservations when you started this challenge. That changed pretty quickly, I think the first time you asked your Mom how to use the sewing machine to make your underquilt".

As others have said, you might be better of focusing on other parts of hammocking, and maybe you're gumption will make a difference.

If your mom will let you use it outside, start with that. Just don't do anything behind her back.

Okay, MAYBE, I can help here... I have recently convinced a mom to allow two kids in the same house to be able to hang in their bedrooms.

    What is YOUR moms objection?

Most moms don't want a bunch of hardware messing up the walls of their houses, if this is the case, I have a solution. If not, your on your on.

Maybe an inexpensive hammock like this to start with. If you're the DIY sort you can easily build a turtle lady/dog stand for pretty cheap. Maybe set this up on a porch, patio, or even better a finished basement. Do some lounging/napping in it and get your mom to try it out.

When you figure out how to convince your mom, let me try the same on my wife!!

Amethyst, I can't offer any better advise that the other posters have already given. I do feel for you and hope things do resolve in your favor. That said, I am really pleased by the QUALITY of the responses, good people here on HF, and by the way Amethyst, welcome to Hammock Forums.

    So, a few questions:

1, how do I get my mom to let me buy myself a hammock?
2, what size hammock would be good? (BTW, I'm 5'0", 115 lbs)
3, which brand of hammock should I get?
4, are there any hammock and support sets that cost less than 149 dollars?

    1) ....Tell her you will study better in a hammock due to the comfort and gentle sway.
    2)..... Any at your size.
3).....Any from a Vendor on this Forum.
    4).....Many.

At the mere mention of the fact that some hangers are 'full time' my wife stopped me and said 'don't even think about it!'

I may know what her objection is... If you have a hammock setup inside you may never leave home.
