Ive done this quite a few times actually, my circle of professional arborists that I hang out with got me into it a few years ago. They termed it as "treecamping", which I really like. The gear and techniques are very sound. And I can tell you from my days as a full time production tree climber, I never had a single day I ever worried about or doubted my gear or techniques. THe tree is the real variable, but good inspection and identification practices can calm that variable significantly.

I have both a Portaledge and an item by New Tribe called a "treeboat", basically a take on a bridge hammock. Portaledge is much easier to pitch, treeboat is my favorite though, much more comfy.

Nothing quite like waking up to a snowy sunrise at 80' or so...
Live every day as if it was your last.
    Laugh much, love often.
    Happy hanging!!!

I made my very own tarp out of purple ripstop from Hancocks Fabrics...

Actually with the four tie in points I do not feel any independant swaying like my old traditional hammock. Instead I feel the movements of the whole tree swaying in the wind. If the tree sways I sway. If the tree doesn't I don't either.

What!? Where the heck do I find a "circle of proffessionals" to join? I know a few arborists around here but none of them seemed interested in backpacking. If there was a tree they could drive to then they would be all over it but if they had to haul their gear more than a mile, nope. :/

Tagging for future read and watch.

I have seen one of your trip reports and remember it was very nice.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Super cool idea I imagine using this once or twice just to get a feel for working at a high level, maybe somewhere in the redwoods.
