    Thanks again everyone!

Thanks for the heads up WV on the hike...I'm going to try and hit that up. It's less than an hour from me so it will be cool to get out there and meet some new folks. I am new to all this and don't really know anyone into hiking/backpacking, so I'd like to make some new friends that are into it...and great to see a fellow mountaineer! And HamMike...a former WVian but always a mountaineer...lol!

As far as DIY...yeah, that's a possibility...maybe not for my first hammock though. I'd like to get into some DIY...hammocks, quilts, down clothing...heck, maybe even a tent...I'd like to get some experience under the belt so I know what I want when it comes time to make stuff...that way I can get it the way I really want it.

In these times of correct speak I find that "prosperous" fits me better than "fat" but hey honesty is unavoidable at times. I'd suggest you try as inexpensive as you can afford in your backyard as you sort out what works and what does not. However if the hammock fits...stand by for the addiction. Said by someone who started the same general way and now has 4 hammocks, two topquilts, two underquilts, three tarps, and a gob of set up equipment. Welcome from the gateway to paradise in California.

    Howdy from Texas.

We have similar dimensions, so I'll share my testimonial...

I started with an EQUIP hammock from Walmart with some lashing straps and a 8x10 poly tarp from Harbor Freight. That started me off and cost less than $35. I use a fleece blanket on top and have started using a $7 Walmart blue CCF pad underneath.

    Cheap, simple and comfortable.

    Welcome from St.Albans WV

but soon to be Pittsburgh PA.

I will be in PGH by the time of the hike, but as I am retired I can make my own schedule. A definite possibility.

As for hammocks, I am also a Big Fella, and I have acquired three hammocks:
Hennessey Expedition, Clarke NX-250, and a Warbonnet Blackbird 1.7 double. Each has its points, but I am growing partial to the WBBB because of the versatility of the double bottom. I can use my UQ, or a CCF pad, or a Thermarest. I roll from side-to-side, and the pocket keeps the pads in place. The HH and CJH are UQ only.
