    Sap on straps - Solutions?

Most of where we camp is pine trees, so I'm sure we'll be getting more than our fair share of sap on our suspension lines. I am just curious as to how all of you deal with sap on the straps so that it doesn't get on the hammock or the rest of pack.

I have my own methods for when that happens but was just curious if there were any better ones out there.

Some folks clean them. Some of us just throw them in a little stuff sack or ziplock. Pine sap will dry out and harden pretty quickly. I just shake my straps out and rub off the hardened bits every few trips.

That will work for my wife and daughters whoopie slings but I guess I was getting more at the permanently attached straps on the war bonnet blackbird. they just hang outside of my bishop bag.

I had a similar problem last year. It was suggested (by this forum) to use an alcohol based hand cleansing gel which dissolved the sap nicely.

Last Night I started working on a DIY project. More or less think of it as a Bishop sack with a longer double sided stuff sack sewn on the outside.

Undo the Foot end - Pull out Strap - Attach strap - Open other end - Pull out strap - Undo the inner pull on the Bishop sack and walk to the tree for strap two installation.

Might Seem excessive but it was my solution for storage of my attached Strap w/Dutch Hardware. When I get it finished I will post a few Picks.

I think Sunday will be the Magic Day when I have time to wrap this up.

You could still baggie them up if you leave them out of the hammock bag. Will keep the sap off of other stuff as well.
Or add continual loops and a Dutch Biner between the hammock and straps to detach easily.

Don't overlook the fact that the straps aren't really "permanently attached". It only takes seconds to slip them completely out of the buckles or to put them back on if you want to "bag 'em".
