Which ridgeline cord/material should I choose?

As a long time fan of paracord (everything in my house that requires a cord gets a knot of paracord) I wasn't aware that other options are available until I landed here at HF. Soooo I have done a lot of reading here in the forums and have gotten some great advice from what I believe to be the best people around. Anyways... I have read about the following cords: Zing-it, lash-it, amsteel and dynaglide. What's the difference? Which should I use on my Chinook 12x9? Weight and color are of no concern but I'd like to have something strong. Although the stretch of the paracord never bothered me before, now that I know alternatives exist, I'd like to trade up to a product with no stretch. (Dont worry about the paracord, it will get made into bracelets and given to one of my scouts who's dad lost his job and he sells the bracelets to help out around the house). Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

For tarp ridgelines and tie outs most here use zing-it or lash-it. They are basically the same except one is yellow and one is grey.

I don't know about the Eno Talon but I have seen a lot of people utilizing the Dutchware website. Haven't made my way over there as of yet. Still learning....

I'd def go with zing it or lash it. I got mine from redden marine. Wesspur also carries it. You can get it in shorter lengths at a few other sites like diygearsupply and jrb I believe.

All those cords you listed are of similar design and materials. Mostly just a difference in strength. For my tarp, I use the very popular 1.75mm Zing-it. Here's a link to 180' spools (if you think you won't use that much, I'm on my 2nd spool).

Lash-it is the same except for color. Both come in 1.75mm and 2.2mm variety. The 1.75mm will hold about 400 pounds. The Zing-it is yellow but not reflective. I like that I can see it at night with a headlamp on but it doesn't light up like a Christmas tree. If you prefer the reflective stuff, Lawson Outdoor Equipment has that at this link.

The main cord we use is zing it or lash it 1.75mm we use it because we use tarp flyz and Dutch hooks. Amsteel is used for hammock suspension because it can carry such heavy weights and it is over kill to use it for ridge line. That is the same with dynema. Those are used by whoopie slings also because it is so easy to splice. Zing it is used for ridgeline it cannot hold as much as Amstel but it does the job.

I made a whoopie ridgeline from lash-it over Christmas vacation and it worked well. *It's great rope and would also work well for food hanging or guylines.

My 2 cents on making whoopies with lash-it. *The rope is so small, it was a little tough to bury at first. *I finally found that a small wire doubled in half worked great for pulling the end through the bury. *I used one strand of copper wire taken out some low voltage electrical wire I had that was sitting around. *At first, I tried to tape the end of the rope that I was pulling through, but the tape kept catching on it's way through the bury. *It worked a lot better to separate the strands for an inch or two and cut half of them so the part doubled over through the wire is about the same thickness as the rest of the rope. *Amsteel is so slippery, it pulls right through even if it doesn't have a sharp point.*

    Good luck!
