Note there is no additional length requirement for whoopies. See Bubba's post above. The hammock knot can be almost touching the tree. However, in the real world, it's the tarp that sets the minimum spacing between the trees.

Pretty much. I've got mine in spaces less than 10', but it is because I have a 9' tarp and a 7' long hammock.

I keep a nerdy spreadsheet with the weights of all my gear. Per the attached, my suspension totals 151 grams.

204 Grams. I am using 2 x 10" Polyester Webbing Straps and 4 ring buckles. My Whoopie setup is 150ish grams. So I plan to keep using my cinch rings for now. Not enough weight difference to warrant the change.

This belief is shared by others and reinforced in a recent lengthy video by Herr Professor Hammock when it is taken as a given.

Want to hang your hammock between closer trees? Surrender the assumption that the centerline must be in line with with the centers of the trees. Tie one or both ends instead to the side(s), or if the bury is long, even to points close to the backs (of small trees.)

Looking forward to expressions of concern for fiddle and measurements of the resultant torque on the trees. But, I didn't say this would be accomplished without addition of minor new skills.

May the force, torque, be with you.

I am now using 6ft 1INCH webbing with elephant trunks and whoopie slings I know tish tish not the way most do it but I like the flexibility And weight is 145grams. I Am not a gram weenie so the weight is not realy the reasoning behind my setup but it is light And very functional.

so 150 grams is fairly good eh?

So it seems to me that other than the ultra light dyna glide useres that a suspention system between 100 to 150 grams is pretty much paar for the course.

Sgt Rock, once again I'm inspired by your ingenuity. Is 'mule tape' a trade name? can't find it over here. Any idea what it might be known as?

Mule tape is this fabric tape used by construction contractors to run electrical lines through conduit pipe. It is very tough and light, but kind of odd compared to other strap fabric because of it's loose weave. It sort of "sticks" to tree bark like velcro a little, no adhesive really. It can be a boon setting up on big trees or an annoyance when you need to spin the strap a little to line it up right. Maybe it would work very well for DemostiX idea of setting up straps 90 degrees off center?

Here is an example of it where I got it from on eBay:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-2-x-5000-1...item23256bfbe2

I got it in three 100' hanks.
