I have a Vapor Trail and love it !! It weigh's in at 2 lbs. although the website states 2 lbs 5 oz.. I like the pouches that Granite Gear offers for pack also. The pack is 3600 ci and handles 30 lbs well. I wouldn't want to go much beyond that without adding more support. The pack seems to mold itself to my back & hips.

I'm similar. I have ULA Conduit for 1 or 2 nighters in warm weather. SMD Starlite for longer trips or cold weather hiking where my volume really increases.

As many may know, I ordered a warbonnet blackbird 1.7 double = 30 oz.

Which means the big 3 (hammock, tarp, and quilts) are going to put me between 4-5 pounds. Trying to keep my base weight under 13lbs.

    So my questions are:

What packs do you use for day hikes? Over-nighter? Weekend? and weeklong?

I have the original jam but it has zero suspension and can become uncomfortable - hence the question and desire for suggestions.

For day hikes, I've been using an el cheapo pack from REI. I can't find it on their site to give you the name, but it's similar to the Stoke 9 and was only about $25. It's small and looks pretty funny on a fella my size, but it is comfortable, carries what I need, and seems to be quite durable. Oh, and it collapses down into a built in stuff sack. Useless, but cool none the less.
i love my ula h2o amigo pro water filterneo

I have a Moonbow Gearskin. One of my sil stuff sacks has a mesh outer pocket and shoulder straps so it doubles as a day pack.

My wife and I both have ULA Catalysts and they are great. They are the pack of choice except for day hikes. Bought both of them from Winton at Mountain Crossings, at a premium of a few bucks over the ULA web site, but Winton gives a lot of help and advice in fitting the pack to you properly. Plus, I am close enough to drive to Neel Gap if I need something adjusted. No connection to ULA nor Mountain Crossings except as a satisfied customer.

That's exactly my setup, too. I got one of the new 2009 conduits. 17oz. Catalyst is kind of overkill for anything less than 25 pounds or so.
