What's your favorite suspension?

Quick question. After seeing numerous posts/threads about Whoopie slings.... Note that SlowBro's thread is up to 852 replies, so WS must be the thing. I have not adjusted the WBBB suspension straps/buckles that came with the hammock, and admitttedly I have had some slippage issues, so...

Is there any reason NOT to go with Whoopies?

The only almost down side is a lengthened minimum tree distance... But that can be remedied but using a short continuous loop before larksheading/girth hitching the whoopie to it... I see no reason to not go with it... They are cheap enough if you don't like it, sell them of the for sale or get rid of them in the PIF thread...

I like them. I see no reason not to use them. Light weight, easy to adjust, very little fiddle factor, and cheap. They do increase the minimum distance you can hang between trees, but I've never seen the need for a supper short hang. I'm sure there are instances when you would need it, but I usually have the opposite problem.

The only small niggle I have with my whoopies is that they can bite into the knot (not the toggle) behind the MSH. So it becomes harder to adjust after the hammock has been weighted.

For that reason I'm planning to try UCRs which will eliminate that problem.

I like that part because I don't want my whoopies changing on me when I am laying down.

Ease of adjustment in very cold/wet weather with weight in the hammock is really the only thing that comes to mind. Whoopies are a little harder to adjust than a ring/strap or buckle/strap suspension with weight in the hammock. They're more difficult to adjust without fine motor skills (i.e.: when wearing gloves or with numb hands).

Other than that, and the aforementioned greater minimum distance, not really.

No reason at all! Whoopies all the way in my opinion. Light weight, cheap, easy to make (after practice), and I'll agree with Caveman.... It's just fun to say! haha

Thanks everyone. I know this is not revolutionary stuff, but I'm fast heading toward a whoopie sling sytem. You all make it pretty clear..
