I really wonder if the deforming is not caused by weight but potentially friction heat from swaying under load.

It has to be weight because Dyneema has a very low melting point (below 300F) so if friction were an issue the line would melt. Also, when I made the devices, it took a lot of heat from a propane torch before the aluminum rod could be bent without relative ease.
