I use this. I have three of them and the 'hooks' are not made with precision - some are small and some are big. You might have to buy more than one.

I use floral wire i also steal from my wife. you can get a good couple of buries out of a strand of it before it breaks, but its so darn cheap i don't worry about it.
Tip use floral wire on a light background or you will loose a piece and it will get sucked up in the vacume machine.
I could be wrong, but I get the impression that you are trying to use something ala sewing needle. That is...you are pushing the wire in and trying to drag the line behind it.
If thats the case, take a look at the way Opie does it in this thread.
I do it this way and use .9mm gal wire and its fine for zing-it. Fluffing up the cord is the knack.
I use a B string guitar wire. Open the Zing-it with different needle to loosen it up. I've made continuous loops, prussics, soft-shackle prussics, guy lines and even an adjustable ridgeline from Zing-it. Patience is key.

+1 on the guitar string. For a "helping hand" you can glue a wooden clothespin down to something you can clamp to the table or is heavy enough to stay put. If you're having a hard time getting the braid to "open" then clamp it in the clothespin a few inches above the insertion point then push up. It opens up like a pair of chinese handcuffs then you can poke the guitar string, needle, whatever right through.
I use some wire I took from work. Kind of like an industrial strength baggie tie. I stripped the cover off, works great on 1.75. Plenty of space in 7/64 Amsteel.
These are pics with 1.75 Lash it for scale

PS Thanks Shug for showing me how to add pics!!

Here's a link to a video I did splicing 1.75 zing it...http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...3&postcount=32. It's poor quality, but should give you an idea of how each step should be done.
As others have stated, it can help to "open" the zing it before inserting the pull wire (especially if the wire is not stiff enough). I used a piece of 12 ga. copper wire with the end smoothly rounded in the video.
Potential is nothing without hard work.
The guitar string has been great for all my splicing. I fold it in half runit thru a dowel to make a handle and go to town. I have used it for 1.75 mm and 2.2 mm zing-it up to 1/8" amsteel with out the slightest problem.

i used 24 gauge floral wire. it was the smallest that i could find that would stay stiff enough to thread in. i pinched the folded end to make it go through a little easier. that stuff is tiny and a real pain to get done.
