    Singer 401A

What is a Singer 401A worth? I found one locally for $200. Is this what they normally go for?

It sounds a little high but I haven't priced them since I got mine over a decade ago.

Part of the price might be if it comes in a mint condition cabinet and has instruction book, a full set of cams and a bunch of various attachments.

It also might be in that price range because it's already had a visit to a machine tech for clean-up, oiling and adjustment.

I bought mine in Indiana where there were lots to choose from if I shopped around - your area may have a real scarcity of them.

The question might be better put - is the machine worth that much to you?

IMO - it's a dynamite machine and a real workhorse.

That's at the high end of what I've seen them go for on ebay with all of the accessories and no sewing table. A table would add value to me...it may or may not for you.

I would try to get it at a lower price, but if it's in good shape, it is a desirable machine (and I want one).

Have to agree that is on the higher side, I have 2 of them and several of the other slant shank models. Of the ones I have all came with cabinets which I do not need and any where from $40.00 to $75.00 in the end.

I've posted this before, but I got my 403A with all accessories for $115 shipped...I saw a lot of 401, 403 and 237 models go for 150-175 shipped and a couple under that. You shouldn't have any problem getting one under $150 if you are patient and can wait a few weeks (1-2 weeks to buy at that price, another to ship).

I'd honestly try to get them down to around $150 if not lower.

A side note: When doing an "advanced" search in ebay you can check a box for completed listings and get a pretty good idea for the going rate of items...ebay price and local prices don't always align so it's not as relevant...but it can't hurt.

I'm going to look at one tomorrow. Just the 401A, speed control and storage case...no accessories. Was asking $150. We're at $120 now.

Watching ebay for a few more days, with accessories, they're going for $155-$250 plus $35-$45 shipping. ebay's usually higher than buying local.
