ya know the alum top rails used on chain link fences... i wonder if that could be bent into a V ?
i know it would take a lot to bend it (like a pipe bender that plumbers use maybe), but would it weaken it? would it crack? would it need to be heated?
    any metal workers here?
chain link fences come w/ some handy, bolt on accessories.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

I don't think fence tubing would take the stress from a hammock. It's not really that strong - you can bend it by hand (not much, but still) if you try. If somebody wanted to test it though, you could fine somebody who has a mandrel - that would probably work best. Maybe an auto shop - they have mandrels for bending exhaust pipes. Dunno if they'd work on this or not though.

In case anyone is interested. I have found the Vario stand for $90.81 plus about $10 shipping at http://www.homedecorworld.com/. That's the cheapest price and the cheapest shipping I have found anywhere.

EDIT: A word of caution: I placed an order with HomeDecorWorld on 3/5. On 3/12 I was charged. As of today (3/20/07) I have not received the goods yet. I've called and only get voicemail and no replies to voicemail or emails. I'm not saying they won't come through but haven't so far. Looks like I may not have it for my upcoming trip this weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed.

If you want to add wheels to it go to http://www.hammock-company.com/detai...&mode=EDIT&qty. A wheel set is $17.50 and free shipping. This site also has the Jobek stands.

WARNING: Do not order from the site listed above. I have since had to make a claim contesting the charge due to failure to provide the merchandise. Thank goodness I paid with a VISA, so I should get my money back.

try this frame..seems to me adding a middle section to the frame where it sits on the ground would provide all the length you need, and it's portable....

Now, that's an interesting idea and quite simple in design!

That's right slick. Pretty cool if you ask me.

This is a unique and compact set-up. I think a wooden diy version would be nice. This probably would be my next project.
