"Civilization is the limitless multiplication of unnecessary necessities." - Mark Twain
“I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.” - John Burroughs
I had tried line levels at one time to get level on steep slopes, and came up with a simple substitute that can't get lost or broken. Just tie a piece of string in the middle of the ridgeline with a simple loop at the bottom. Then just make a simple slip noose to hang something with weight - I just use a stake - and adjust your hang until you make a T with the ridgeline and string. Simple and effective. Actually, when I think about it, it should work anywhere on the ridgeline. I don't use a ridgeline anymore, so I can't really check. Good idea on the double hanging.
I don't know where to buy one - my wife and I just make our own gear.
The tarp doesn't have to be a trapezoid. I just think that this shape is well suited for the double hang.
I have used a rectangular tarp with very good results. My preference is to have the head-end of the tarp higher than the foot-end of the tarp.
The Bilgy Tarp Tent (as seen here:http://www.questoutfitters.com/) is the basic shape that I like for double hanging
