ridge line coin flip

I want to upgrade the ridgeline on my night owl from the green blob of knots and 550 cord. Which or witch line would be better. I'm kinda lost in the in the says I just see the pretty colors of zing its and dyneema jungle. Question two. How hard is it really to do that splice? In advance thanks for your help.

Oh yea as a back up plan toss up between the dutch ridge line or the SRL from wilderness logic

I got mine from arrow head equipment... Now that I think about it both of mine have come from ahe... Dyneema, both in orange...

The splice isn't hard at all... Just check it out in the diy, same concept as a whoopie sling...

The splicing is easier than you think. I did it on my first try today.

If you splice the correct way, it isn't hard at all. I did it the wrong way when I started, and I wanted to throw it all out the window. then I learned to taper and that fixed everything.

I just got mine from whoopieslings.com, at least I know it won't fall apart like it probably would if I tried to make one and the service is excellent.

I used amsteel (overkill) that I had to hand, most people use zing it or similar because of weight, visibility (so you don't catch your head) and if you go much thinner diameter it dies get difficult to splice. I would advise going with a dyneema/other non stretch line like zing it, fling it, amsteel, dynaglide etc then the rest cant ve used for tarp ridgelines and tie outs, drawcords, backpack compression etc.

If you're worried about strength maybe consider dynaglide. But really unless tou have your ridgeline really tight then it shouldn't be an issue.

Splicing is not difficult, it can be a bit of effort to pull the bury through sometimes but it is not that complicated.

You could also make or get the UCR ridgeline from Dutch. Eliminates the long extra tail from hanging down into the hammock.

My WBBB came with a lash it SRL that had loops that were made with over hand knots. If you do not stress the SRL and only use it as a guide for set up, its not critical to have loops made with splices. Just a thought.
