My first DIY tarp type object

Hey all this is my very fist DIY project. You guys all inspired me to jump way in over my head. I know the pitch is loose but I have not put the guy line tensioners on yet. I was just so excited to get this finished and posted I could not wait for them to come in the mail. It is 12 x 10 and weighs approx 26 oz so no to bad weight wise. I put extra pull outs 2 on each side so i can use this with a bridge or my Hennessy.
As you can see i also subscribe to the " Wavy stitchs are there to confuse the bears" Technique of sewing.

    Pockets for the Guy lines.

    Pretty roomy.

    Looks great! Well done...

What kind of fabric and where did you get it from? I've been thinking of tackling this kind of project myself.

Nice Tarp. I am in the middle of doing a 12'-6" x 8' cat tarp.
Should come in at about 13oz.

Instead of adjusters you can use a taughtline hitch on the end of your guy lines and it doesnt weigh anything.
That said Zpacks makes a .025 oz adjuster I want to try.

Cant really tell but it looks like you have a ridgeline and prussiks with biners.
I use micro biners which are really tiny and light.
Not sure how strong they are but they are holding up.

Up until now for tarp suspension I have been just wrapping the tree and tying a taughtline hitch with a quick release and that works well and you can quick adjust it fairly easy.

Recently I saw a video where a guy had tree whoopies for his tarp suspension and he just clips on to the end of that with a micro biner and that looks like a nice setup and easy to setup and adjust. He has a cat cut tarp so no full length line. Gonna try that with 1.4mm Dyneema Cord. It weighs .65 oz per 50 feet.

Bought some Zpacks 1.5 mm Z-Line a while back.
Really nice stuff and pretty much tangle free and weighs .88 oz / 50 feet
Holds a knot well, holds or makes a good prussic, and holds a taughtline hitch and is dayglow green.
    Its Not slippery.

Looks great! I'll be starting my first tarp shortly. I'll be buying the material in the next day or two. What was the most difficult part for you?

Thanks everyone. It is silnylon 2cnds (not a blemish on it) from DIY Gear Supply. The black is Cordura. Slightly heavy but tough stuff. The ridgeline is 1.7mm lash it. Eventually I want to get some tarp flyz and maybe some nines for the guy lines. By far the hardest part was the middle pull outs. Only reason was working with all that fabric trying to get it all out of the way and only sewing what I wanted sewn. Its really not that hard aside from the shear volume of slippery fabric. I highly suggest anyone thinking about it just go ahead and jump in. To cut the cats I hung it on a wall in the bedroom and drapped a string to mark the curve. ( Wife shook her head over that one) Thank you everyone for posting thier projects. It really gave me the kick I needed to jump on in and do it.

Your thread title made me laugh.

That looks like a great tarp! Nicely done!

Thank you for the encouraging words. I have been reading, researching, and attempting to obtain a thread injector so I can begin my diy journey. Gonna start easier than a tarp...maybe a pillow?
