Its just that the So Cal bushcraft group has been trying to get a gathering together and a lot of those guys hang too (or do sometimes) and a lot are available on this same weekend.

More than anything I am just looking forward to meeting new people and putting faces to names, so car camping is perfect.

Could someone explain Bushcraft? I think they make lots of outdoors stuff, but this sounds much more specific.

the craft of being comfortable with less in the bush. fancy term for camping. typically minimal gear, sleep on ground under a tarp. using what nature provides and a little knowledge to give comforts.

how is the trip looking? can we join if its not overcrowded?

I don't see it being an issue. I think we could probably all learn something from them and it may turn them on to hammocks. A win/win in my book.

Please post how many, and if any will be coming on Friday for planning purposes.

Oh, and just so everybody knows...

I don't plan on being "in charge" up there. I'm just helping get things together prior to the trip so it actually happens. We can decide individually or as a group where and when to eat, what we want to do, etc...

If the guys that want to show demos (Foster's stove, splicing lines) want to post a time for them prior to the trip, that would be helpful because it will give us a guideline for folks that are interested.

And we can figure out which site makes the most sense for a potluck on Saturday when we see what we get.

After that, I'm looking at this as sort of a Swap Meet style chance to meet others that are into hammocking, to check out the gear everyone has, and to see different methodology for hanging/camping.

As we get closer to the trip I will PM people that are going with my Phone Number and email address if anybdoy needs additional info that isn't posted here. I will also make a post with all related info so it can be seen in one place easily.

Really looking forward to meeting some of you fellas!

my Interpretation of Bush crafting or Self Reliant, is Outdoor survival skills, wild edibles, processing water, fire making, shelter solutions, with what ever mother nature will provide. hammocks have a place in Bush Crafting, Back in the 90's I studied with Mark Baker, Primitive Woodsman Skills...

I'm still not sure. So count me out for now guys. If I can make it, I'll swing by. Most likely on Friday.
