    Tannehill Ironworks State Park

I got a chance to slip away this weekend by myself for few nights. I don't do this often, maybe once a year. I typically take the kids, or the whole family, on outings like this...but sometimes I need a little quiet time to clear my head. Also, when I take the girls...we can't go very primitive. So, I decided to spend 2 nights at Tannehill State Park. It's about 2 hours north of me, and I had not been there in about 15 years. It's a very historical place, and this time of year it's not crowded at all. This was the location of some blast furnaces that produced iron from the ore in the are to supply the war effort. The Tannehill area had all the ingredients to make this a perfect location for the Ironworks. It was destroyed towards the end of the war, but was later restored...and now holds a lot of history regarding iron and steel production in the Birmingham area.

I had a great weekend. It got a little cold at night, 26 the first night, and 29 on night #2. I had the opportunity to do some day hiking, and test out my new Frost River pack. Not for the ultra light crowd, but for those enjoying a traditional "bushcrafty" daypack, it fits the bill. Also had a chance to try out the tarp pull outs that Dutch sells. They did a wonderful job opening up the tarp area, and were a snap to setup. All in all, I had a great time...and thought I would share.

Seems like the only time I get by there is Trade Days. I really need to spend a weekend out there.

    Nice trip.

Tannehill is a nice park that I wish I had explored more than I have. It is just a bit of a drive so I don't get down there like I would like. I do plan to be there Feb 23-24 for an archery shoot.

    Thanks for posting the video.

I love Tannehill and have camped there several times with my son's scout troop. Looks like you had a nice peaceful camp out.
