It just so happens I'm a psychologist who specializes in ASD. I have observed children utilizing some items similar to hammocks in a controlled environment, particularly during OT and PT. These "hammocks" are modified from what we use. The modifications include heavy duty netting, full zipper to enclose child,as well as padding and low ground clearance. As you know children of Autism have both sensory issues ( fabrics getting tight and rubbing may be an issue) as well as impulse control, which might make for a safety concern. I wouldn't recommend a standard hammock to a family unless constant supervision were present,when utilized as a therapeutic tool or reward. To sleep in overnight would depend on functioning ability of child. Just my .02.
Something to consider though. I'll pass on to colleagues and get some opinions.
