    Thumbs up

Just got a kitchen pass. I'm planning to make it for Friday night. Another forecast has it about 10-15F and wind 5-10 mph, 30% chance of snow.

As much as I don't want to, I am going to have to back out of this one. I've been backpacking and camping the past 2 weekends in a row and have most of tomorrow (saturday) booked anyway.

I will have to check this forum more often - I know where to come when I need to "get out" and my usual hiking crew isn't available

I was able to make the Friday night part of this hangout. Arrived about 4 PM and Mountain Man, his nephew Jake, and CB200 were setting up their hammocks.

After a bit of looking over each other's equipment, we built a fire to help stay warm. Temps were not MN cold, but for southern Ohio, when it dips into single digits, it is getting pretty cold. Fortunately, there was very little wind.

I think I slept the coldest. I was wearing my jacket under the top quilt when I went to bed. Mountain Man told a great story about some of his military training when he wore clothes inside a sleeping bag and got quite cold.

So the next time I went to the hammock, after warming myself next to the fire, I slept much better - until about 3 AM when I noticed that my feet were achy from the cold. I bailed to my truck, about 150 yards away, and warmed up my toes. Next time I came back to the hammock, I wore my kilt over the wool tights, and I slept much warmer than I had with pants. I think I already knew this trick, but forgot it for a while.

CB200 had a great suggestion for my worries about leaving hammock suspension hanging from a tree... Don't disattach the suspension from the hammock when taking it down. I tried that in the morning and it worked well.

I'll throw a couple photos up here from Friday night. ....
