After a bit of looking over each other's equipment, we built a fire to help stay warm. Temps were not MN cold, but for southern Ohio, when it dips into single digits, it is getting pretty cold. Fortunately, there was very little wind.

I think I slept the coldest. I was wearing my jacket under the top quilt when I went to bed. Mountain Man told a great story about some of his military training when he wore clothes inside a sleeping bag and got quite cold.

So the next time I went to the hammock, after warming myself next to the fire, I slept much better - until about 3 AM when I noticed that my feet were achy from the cold. I bailed to my truck, about 150 yards away, and warmed up my toes. Next time I came back to the hammock, I wore my kilt over the wool tights, and I slept much warmer than I had with pants. I think I already knew this trick, but forgot it for a while.

CB200 had a great suggestion for my worries about leaving hammock suspension hanging from a tree... Don't disattach the suspension from the hammock when taking it down. I tried that in the morning and it worked well.

I'll throw a couple photos up here from Friday night. ....
Risk, I just wanted to tell you how nice it was to meet you and share stories. Hope to have that opportunity again. I also wanted to mention that I should have followed that suggestion about leaving the strap attached. Shortly after you said good morning, I realized that my feet were totally numb. I jumped out of the hammock and started shuttling stuff into my car. I guess I dropped a strap because MtnMan pm'd me saying he had my strap and my chair! I ended going back down there with my wife and dog for a walk and to say good bye to ppl. Just though you might get a laugh out of that!

Just wanted to post some of the pix I shot on Friday. It was a pleasure meeting Mountainman and his nephew! Really a wonderful location for the hang, and we woke up to snow to boot! Had a great time sitting around the fire and having Risk pointing out stars and constellations. Really a memorable trip! I really, really cold feet through the night, I guess I found the limitations of my 20 degree setup as it got down to 6 or so. I beat a hasty retreat at around 0800 and in doing so forgot a tree strap and my folding chair. MtnMan was kind enough to shoot me a PM, so my wife, dog and I went back down go a walk and to meet up with HamMike, Mtnman, Tim, and Home Run for lunch. Wish I could have stayed Sat night too. We did get to go to ****'s and get some columbia warm stuff for an insanely low price and get a JCP Down coat for the wife. Good times! Enjoy the pix.

Thanks to all who came out!!

Friday had a great time sitting around the fire with Risk, CB200 and my nephew Jake. Good fire, Great conversation, temps down to 6 or 7 degrees -4 with the windchill and good sleep once I hit the hammock.

Saturday morning they all left and my buddy Tim came out around 1 and he and I took off for about a 4 mile hike on some of the trails. We got back to camp to see Home Run and HamMike setting up, we talked about our set ups for a while, started a nice fire and CB200 came back out with his Wife and Dog and the cooking began. Tim and I cooked our ribeye steaks and some mac and cheese and ate like kings. My buddy GMOHanger (Chad) stopped out for about 3 hours and Home Run, HamMike, Tim, GMOHanger and myself sat around eating, staying warm and having many laughs.

What a great bunch of forum members that I had the opportunity to hang with this weekend, and share some nice cold temps.

I have a few pics and a short video that I will post later on.

Will do again in the near future.

Thanks for arranging the hang, Rich. Very nice time meeting everyone. (I can't believe you are a "Waffle Farm" Veteran!) Sure enjoy seeing the pictures and vid; nice job Alex and Risk. (Risk, hope to catch up with you at a hang soon.) Ahhhh.......nothing like a campfire on a snowy evening.
