Anybody make storage pockets at the ends of a hammock?

I am sure this topic has been discussed on HF somewhere but I can’t find it so I will throw it out again:
Both ends of a hammock up near the gather are pretty much wasted space. Anybody ever sew a strip of fabric across the inside up near the ends and make storage pockets? If so, how did it work out?

I would stay away from sewing into the hammock body to avoid creating weak areas. A peak bag works well for utilizing the space. you can also make them youself if you are so inclined

I like the idea of the Peak bag, looks like a great DIY project...

You could just tack it at the top edge seams and a couple of points in the main hammock body and probably not weaken it too much. I think there is a big safety factor built into hammock weight limits. I have sewn a pad sleeve into the bottom of my WBBB 1.1 single and have not seen any stress points developing over the last couple of years. And, the 1.1 single is only "officially" rated to 200 pounds.

You said... "You could just tack it at the top edge seams and a couple of points in the main hammock body and probably not weaken it too much"
Actually, I don't see it weaking the hammock body at all ( or the Storage Area) if you attach the storage unit along the hammock edges.
This version in the picture is only supported by the ridge line, but after several years of use I have come to the conclusion that it would be much better if supported by the strong & taught hammock body edges.
No sewing in the hammock body other than the edge seams.

The top peak would still need to be supported by a ridge line (or hoop) & would give rain protection to the hammock end, but the weight of anything stowed in the end cover below the hammock end (& tarp) would be supported by the much stronger (& sag resistant) hammock edges rather than the ridge line.

Also, there is space for rain protected space "inside" the small gathered end of hammock end (both head end & foot end).
Perhaps a TQ/ZQ "Peak Bag" or a small, dedicated, storage loft sewn to the hammock edges as well.
With the later option you might need the storage bag to opened & closed ( by Velcro, etc) in order to gather the hammock for whipping, but it would still be protected from blowing rain by the top cover.

As far as the weight ratings for hammock weights go, You'll have to consider your particular hammock & it's suggested weight limits.
Mine is a DIY, gathered end hammock, with about 1.9 (per sq ft) fabric & I have never had a concern about it supporting me, my back pack & it's contents.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

I use Lazy Slug Tubes. In addition to providing waterproof end caps for my hammock, there's a huge amount of storage capacity in each end.

I've been interested in them. Don't want to go off topic but how do you like them? I've been using an oversized double sided stuff sack that fits my hammock and uq, that I'll use as sort of a peak bag when the hammock is strung up.
