Talking Video: "Warming Up For Northern Minnesota 3 Night Winter Trip"

    Hello Hammockers...
Myself and Kurt Papke (a member on here) are heading into the c-c-cold Sunday to Wednesday for a winter backpacking jaunt.
This video in me preparing for the 3 night Winter backpacking trip to Northern Minnesota where the temps are going down to -19º to -15º at night.... Whooo Buddy! Testing out my gear, pulling the sled in my clothes for cold hiking and going over the gear in my pack.
My hammock, Full UQ, Weather Shield, straps, 2 biners BB Bag all stuff into a compression sack and weigh just a tich over 4 LBs ..... not bad for all that comfort.
I have re-sorted my pack and it is now weighing in at 38 LBs with water, fuel and food included in that weight. Not bad for deep winter.
This one goes out to HappyCamper!
Got kind of a "manatee" theme going on in this video .... you will see what I mean.
Some out-takes after the final credits and the usual palaver and ramblings.......
    Thanks for checking it out.

Stay warm and have a great time!

Next time explain how you keep track of your dozen or more bags. This my perennial problem...I need a bit of cord. OK, that's in the ditty bag I think. Dang! Where did I put that ditty bag? Or did I stick the cord in the hammocking gear bag????

My camps always look like I'm having a yard sale, because I toss down a cover sheet and dump all the bags out on it. Doesn't help with remembering which bag has the cord in it, but cuts down on the searching for the possible bags.

    Looks good!
I think i have to watch the piece when you go through your gear about ten times to get it all

That sled, is that modified kid thing?

    Not bad at all !

    -15F - -19F is pretty C-c-cold !
With these short days, it means a lot of time in camp!
Darn cold just to sit around there, i bet it's going to be a early bed time.

Keep warm and have a great time.

    Hi Shug
Love the video, good work as useal. A couple of questions if I may.
That weight of 38lbs is that with the sled attached to the ula or just the pack weight?

I don't want to question "how you row your boat" but you seem to have some duplication going on with your stoves. You have your tinny stove plus the whisper light. I wonder why you would carry both?

    Cheers

Odd, my first reply never showed!
Might get a double post here!

I think he brings two stoves for to reasons.

    1. In those temps i would like a backup as well, if something happends.
    2. The whisper light is more effective in those temps, but since Shug is such a lazy guy and wants breakfast in bed, i think he brings the Tinny stove for that

    I might be wrong though.
