Newbie Question? I know a little but like to get feed back Strap or Whoopie for suspension? I have straps now.
I've been all strap for years. Recently started playing with whoopies which are nice, but I'm not sure if I'll stay with them or not. Here are two things that happened when I used whoopies: first time after a full day of rain the rain ran down the whoopie and into the hammock (can be fixed with drip strings or hardware) second was a night of freezing rain and the adjustable part was frozen solid. With my straps the connection to the hammock was always under the tarp and I never got wet, or had the connection point freeze whether it was ET's or ring buckles.
Good luck,

That's a really large and vague question. It's more a matter of personal preference than anything. There are oodles of threads about both on here.
But I'll have a quick go at it.
Straps work fine. Buckles or rings are easy to use and understand. Whoopies are lighter and take up less space in the pack. Size and weight are the primary advantage to whoopies. That and they're cool and fun to make and use, and kind of fascinate people who can't imagine such a small line holding them up.
I use both in different situations. Try whoopies if only to try something different!

I love using straps if I am car camping...
If I were to go backpacking... (I wish!) then whoopies would be on my list...
I really like straps because they're just sooo easy... Not that whoopies are hard, straps are just simple.

In addition to what's been said webbing is a bit faster to set up and allows for trees that are closer together. The webbing suspension from AHE is preferred.

I like my whoopies, I do agree with Red, although, I have not had any water reach my hammock I have had them freeze up. I do like straps as well but I like the weight and ability to compact the whoopies.

Horses for courses... You backpacking? Use whoopies... Otherwise it's just personal preference.

Lets not forget you're taking straps anyway, so another question is whether you want to carry straps and whoopies or just straps.
Good luck,
