    January overnight in the Adirondacks

My girlfriend and I just got home from a quick overnight hang; our first January trip.

We found a spot out of the strong winds, built a nice fire and cooked a big rib steak and mashed potatoes, followed by a dessert of cheesecake. A bottle of Cabernet rounded out the meal.

    A wonderful night out!

Temps were forecasted to be in the mid-20's overnight. We both used KAQ New River underquilts and 20-deg.-rated down sleeping bags for top insulation, and were comfortably warm.

Great idea for date night, dinner and a show. I just wish my wife would go out in the woods like that.

I know how very, very lucky I am to have found a girl who LOVES to be outside. I'm also lucky to have found this forum... the wonderful people here have shared a lot of valuable information that helps make my outdoor adventures more fun.

Amen to that on both counts. My wife loves being outdoors and I also consider myself to be very lucky.

Nice trip report! I have used that exact set-up, New River UQ and 20* bag, to take me into the low teens. Dinner sounded great, and you have indeed found a one-in-a-thousand girlfriend as a hiking/hanging companion!

    Thanks for the report!!
