Pocahontas State Park or DC area

Me and my bro are thinking about camping at Pocahontas State Park in Richmond Va. this month. Anyone ever been there? Hoping it might be a cool place to go, i know they have Mountain bike trails there as well so might be a cool double hang/mtb trip. Pretty sure they are open...

Any of you guys go camping in and around the Washington DC area? Got any recommendations of good places?

Call Pocahontas before you go they may not allow any camping until 3/1 and to verify hammock use. A lot of va state parks do not allow anything on trees!

You could try Bull Run in Manassas in NoVa. They allow hammocks. I'm unsure if they allow winter camping though.

Sadly no, heck they don't even allow campfires in their "backcountry" camping where you have to hike in to the forest to get to a remote campsite.

Bull Run IS OPEN. We just camped there last weekend and did some long hikes on the 18 mile Bull Run/Occoquan trail. We were the only ones not in an RV, but the shooting range is close by. They start promptly at 9 and quit at exactly 5pm. We were hiking during that time, so no big deal.

Lots of stuff out West of DC. I live in Frederick and regularly mountain bike in the area. There's also the Appalachian Trail just West of Frederick. That's my go-to for weekend trips. PM me if you want some details, particularly on the mtb trails as they are kind of hush hush lately.
