I needed a new set up for a 4 day hike on the Appalachian Trail. I had a friend that mentioned she had one and she liked it a lot. So the more research I did the more it seemed like the way to go. I have not done my trip yet but I'm liking the hammock so far!

    What made you a "hanger"?

I became a hanger because I could be fast and light with a hammock to help my younger scouts in my Boy Scout troop when I was about 14. I used a cheapo net hammock from Walmart, I have owned eno before and it was ok but I felt as though their accessories were over priced and ended up pifing it to my little brother who is now a hardcore hanger and owns the entire eno line.

Age and sore joints made sleeping on the ground difficult. Tried a hammock and will never go back to sleeping on the ground.

I'm taking up hanging to avoid; Ticks, chiggers, mosquitos, snakes, and beds of poison ivy, swampy lands.
Also its alot of fun rigging up a hammock quickly, having a chair to sit in, and they are pretty comfortable.

There was a reddit post about a gigantic (I think six-person) hammock and in the comments someone mentioned Hennessy Hammocks. I'm quite easily hyped, so I waited, but after ~half a year I still want one, so I finally ordered. (from PapaSmurf though, not hennessy)

Read about a winterhang for FjellForum forum members in November 2013 and got intrigued. Day or two later a FF member put a Hennessy Explorer Deluxe Asym Zip up for sale and I grabbed it. A week or so after that I hung the hammock between two trees with a little help from another hang participant. When I carefully climbed in a few hours later I knew I had dicovered my place in the world. Even with -8C and some snow flurries, the Hennessy tarp was just big enough to keep the weather off me and I slept like a baby

It only took me one night to convert. It was the best night of sleep I've ever had in the woods. I keep my BBXLC set up a lot in the backyard just to nap in on the weekends when I'm stuck in town.

Well, not quite a hanger yet, but on my way. I've been hiking the App. Trail and have seen many hangers. I 've staying in the shelters, but have found them full of mice, etc. and have decided to find a better way. I had a tent and found out after a soaking rain that it was only water repellent. I got up the next day soaking wet and walked away from it, leaving it behind.
I have used hammocks before, bought from Wal-mart, around the campsite , but never considered being a hanger until I noticed the nice rigs that can be purchased. I am considering the Warbonnet Blackbird and a tarp. Hanging will definitely open up new campsite options.
