A divorce.
Same as JnL. I started backpacking again after a bit of a break and I noticed that the old bod is not as forgiving as it used to be.
Hobo Off The Ground All Year Round: 8 7
consecutive months since the start, 9/2015 through 11/2022
I just can't allow all this sexiness to touch the ground.
Yeah,I couldn't make it through that with a straight face either.
Nothing to see here. Keep moving.
Well 2 years ago I started looking into backpacking. I come from hunting and camping on cots blankets tents up the wahooo. I started looking into smaller lighter things because we all know you cannot bring three ice boxes and a full kitchen sink too on your back. I started looking at tents backpacking tents and how small they were. Then I seen a video of a hammock and boy did it stick in my head. for two years I pondered over getting one. Well after going car camping in Oct. with the wife kid and friends I finally bought a sleeping pad nice one small light and liked it dont have to much room in the old car for the cots. well after waking up with back pains so bad I was having my 4'9 wife walk on my lower back We bought hammocks and wednesday are going for an over night what ever we can shove into our cheap wallmart backpacks and my miltec backpack i use for work
I had a steady monthly campout 15 years ago with my best friend but out area was a SWAMP!
This was the best way to stay out of the mud. I enjoyed it so much I never went back to ground.. and neither did he.
I remain a dedicated hanger and am still refining my gear as I expand my horizons and see more of the world through section hikes and other hunting camps once a month, every month of the year.
wow..just made it through 174 pages of introductions. I'm not sure if that makes me a internet stalker/troll or not...
I'm actually 'married into' this life. My husband is hk2001 here on HF. He started with a HH, I believe. Truthfully I thought he was nuts, but as I try to be a good wife, I didn't pick on him too much. Fast forward a few years and now he's made me my own beautiful hammock and tarp set and is working on a set for our daughter. Life is good off the ground!
I consider myself a "hanger" more in spirit, I guess. I've only spent a handful of nights in my gear and am not well versed in it. But I can hang it myself! I've been lucky enough to go to the NEHHA 2014 Spring Swing and meet some awesome people. My fingers are crossed that I'll be allowed loose from work long enough to venture into the woods again for a group hang next year.
Ran across one of Shugs videos on the internet a few years ago and was already backpacking. Went to REI picked up an ENO and tried sleeping in it while camping one night with a pad and my back never felt so good in the morning! Haven't looked back since.
Just joined the forum. Started hanging very recently. Owned a Hennessy Hammock for years, never used it. Went on a 3-day backpacking trip and decided to give it a try. Best sleep I've ever had backpacking...very hooked now. See my introduction thread just posted.

Just got in backpacking with some friends that have been doing it for a long time. They are hangers and I said why not. So here I am learning all I can and refining my rig. Thanks for a great forum.
I do backcountry camping in Algonquin park with my brother inlaw and well he snores... LOUD! We went from one tent and sleepless nights to two tents. Over the years we ventured further and further into the park then pack size and weight became an issue. I went to MEC to look into a bivy and a girl there told me about hammocks and from then till now its been a crazzy obsession.
