I was tired of waking up worse off than when I went to sleep. In time, fiddling with the lines, tarps, etc was an added bonus.

I wanted to get my wife and girls in to camping and they were not excited about laying on the ground. two of them love it the third rather be in a tent she likes the falls security it gives her. I have given up tent camping and my favorite time to camp is in the winter, i'm not much for the heat.

I was tired of sharing a tent with wife and kids and waking up with a 1' area of space after being crowded to the edge.

I live in Arkansas and it's a pain to find a flat surface with no rocks or tree roots to setup a tent. It's a no-brainer to bring my hammock! Also, I have back issues and sleep BETTER in my hammock than in my bed!

About 15 years ago I got my first hammock (not the first one I've laid in though). I set it up in the front yard and fell in love. It was a cotton hammock with wooden spreader bars at each end. One day I put it way up in an oak tree and decided to sleep out under the stars one night. After about a year of hanging in the tree it was no longer safe to lay in anymore. A few years ago I started making plans to hike the AT and began collecting the gear I needed (Still haven't hiked the AT yet, because gear can be expensive). About a year ago I came across some Youtube videos on ENO hammocks and decided to get a cheapy at Wally World. I used a blue tarp I had lying around for cover and strapped up to a couple trees in my yard. Not long after that my neighbor mentioned a friend of his had just purchased a Hennessy Hammock. So I looked it up and bought one that day (Woodland Survivor). I have taken my Hennessy on a few trips and it has been great.

I was on Pinterest two months ago and I was looking for bed sheets to fit in my new room that i was planning and I came across the most beautiful wine-coloured Brazilian hammock. Yeah, its not the type of thing people might go crazy about, but I was having trouble lately to find a way to sleep comfortably in my 16-year-old bed. Imade some research on the benefits of hammocks and decided that I wanted one to try it. The only problem; I have no experience and I want to find a good hammock without losing my time and money.

All the questions that I had were answered by this forum and I decided to join the forum.

I did a solo tent camp trip to Padre Island National Seashore, and remembered the hard way how uncomfortable sleeping on the ground can be for me. That's when I heard about hammock camping. I've done two trips now in a hammock, and I'll never really ever voluntarily go back to ground-dwelling. I'm hooked on hammocks.

This is corny I watched a nat geo show about the AT around five years ago and was very intrigued by the idea of backpacking I've always liked to go camping and fishing and be out doors and such but I had never really thought about backpacking as a possibility people just don't get why any one would Want to walk 30 miles through the woods where I come from...any who I finally took the plunge and started reseaching and buying gear to get me out in the woods I started out to be a Tenter but soon realised I didn't get much sleep on the ground. ...I bought a cheap hammock and slept my first night all the way through out on the trail with no back pain or rocks or roots....I was hooked... a few shug videos and I was more informed I think its safe to say I'll never to back to ground

I always wake up sore after sleeping in a tent. Sure i could have bought some sort of a pad but I wouldn't be as comfortable as in an XLC.

Sore hips, sore back. And hammock camping is a fun hobby. And a way of life, sort of.

As George Carlin said, interests are free, but hobby's cost money. First came the interest and I came to this forum, then the money to buy the hobby gear.

Fun Fun. And I like most of the Youtube videos of the hikers.

I slept under a tarp on Mt Marcy long long ago. And slept in various tents.

Like being able to stop at any two trees.

I've never been happy on the ground, I live in an area covered in roots and rocks with plenty of trees! Also, I wasn't sure how to stick tent poles into bikepacks that I made for my fat bike. Then I discovered trying to stuff synthetic sleeping gear was the real issue, I had already gotten a hammock and tarp, learned how to make soft shackles and whoopie slings, structural ridgelines, and had snakeskins and dutch bling on my tarp ridgeline. I have invested in down quilts and made a couple easy ones... Make Your Own Gear Hammock Camping is a facebook page that was a great help to me before really poking about hammock forums. Basically, camping from a trail worthy bike is what got me going! 15284836_10211403430906260_5402722339275804669_n.jpg15337407_10211407979419970_3035242678592180724_n.jpg15390815_10211414056651897_3349975374636894692_n.jpg16641087_10212119924218145_8492490934444883612_n.jpg16730557_10212119703852636_6306982300761187257_n.jpgg.jpgh.jpgi.jpgk.jpgphoto (2).JPGphoto (c).JPG18921740_138622296698686_4193142973427139540_n.jpg18922183_138622270032022_1598454447283793928_n.jpg19059776_138622183365364_8915395934077290404_n.jpgG0037090_.jpg
