An 8 day hiking trip on Corsica with very little level, soft ground to be found convinced me that there must be a better way. Plus the weight savings are pretty enticing.

    Why I hang

My family and my brother went to Shenandoah National park last summer for vacation. Until that point I was a ground dweller. He and I decided to do a through hike, he as a hanger and me as groundhog. But alas he brought an extra hammock as a backup which he graciously lent. Needless to say I was hooked! Not just on hanging but through hiking as well. So here we are seven months later and my daughters both have a skeeter beeter my wife has a 1.1 dl blackbird. I have a 1.7 BB ENO double and two diy's. And a winter base load of 16lbs. I am 6"4" and 245 so all my stuff is over sized. Hammock hanger for life!!!

Many years ago, I dropped in on my sister unannounced . As there were no extra beds, I had to sleep in a hammock, which was my luck. It was the perfect way to sleep in a hot, humid climate, and I slept much better that I have ever done in a tent, groundhog-wise.

Hi, a newbie here. Too hard to get up off the ground from a tent anymore and I'm hoping this will be a good alternative for me. I live in the woods too and like to hang in a regular hammock on a frame, but the "U" shape is not comfortable for very long. Saw that there were hammocks made where you can lay flat. Just ordered a HH Expedition. I've lurked here a bit and picked up some info. and am sure that I willl learn alot more when my HH arrives and I attempt set up for the first time. I figured this would also be a good addition to my emergency survival kit.

Good friend/ co worker of mine bought one a while back. He uses it at work sometimes on coffee and lunch break. Intrigued me enough to buy my own. We both use them now for taking a break while hiking the Catskills, or at work, lol. It helps to be on good terms with your boss.

Thumbs up newbie to forums and hanging

The reason? My Sons started about two years ago, at first I was unimpressed with the idea but I tried out one of the hammocks in the back yard and was hooked! I bought the Hennessey a few months later. My first hang was a killer, walked to far up hill and was so totally worn out I set up and slept for like 10 hours or so! That was last year and due to many factors I was unable to get out again. I have a Warbonnet Blackbird on the way so my wife can join me and have been walking every day to get into shape. I can't wait to get out and as often as possible this year!

I switched to a hammock so I could have more flexibility in where I can camp, and because I leave less of an impact on the environment when I choose a stealth site, which I often do when I go solo. It's also so much more comfortable!

I was always interested in the HH's we had in the store when I worked at REI once upon a time. It wasn't until many years later I finally picked one up. Despite a poor set up and cooooold back my 1st nights out (my fault on both accounts) I vowed then and there that I'd never sleep on the ground again if at all possible!! Hammocks are the only way to go in my book.
