how and when I became a hanger?

almost 5 years ago I was out with some good friends to hickory creek in Ohio, I just couldn't ever seem to sleep very long or get comfortable enough in my tent, and yes I am getting older and my bones are stiffer. I started research into hammock backpacking, 1 year of research and phone calls to mfg.'s later I bought a north american by clark, 10 degrees and at the mohican river in february I set up camp, 20 degree down bag, pizza from my outback oven, I nestled in and awoke 12 hours later, not stiff, sore or cold. Used my NA for the last 4 years from Colorado to PA, My new clark 150 will be here this teusday and am off to southern ohio this long weekend to try out the new 150. I never even realized I was a so called hanger til a few months ago when a fellow backpacker told me my hammock was becoming very popular, hmmm, just joined this club today and and glad to see all of you, read your stories and relate in a very good way, thanks for letting me in and mayby we'll see one another on a trail someday, til then, LNT, your fellow hanger, union

    need help choosing a rig

    Hello all

i am not yet a hammockeer but i am on the verge

I used to do some rough camping when i was younger Unfortunately due to smoking my pipes clogged up and i couldnt walk any distance without pain Cut a long story short I stopped smoking 2 yrs ago and in november i had my pipes reamed Now i can walk and am thinking of doing some light hiking I kept up with car camping but its not the same as being in the woods.

Can anybody help me on choosing the right set up

I aim to do max two to three day hikes three season

I was thinking of the HH ultra light with the larger tarp and the super shelter system (i dont like being cold) the only other contender seems to be a clark

I live in brooklyn and am looking for a place thah you can camp in the woods and light a fire without anybody bothering you within 45 minutes to an hours drive

Any help would be appreciated before i take the plunge

Thanks in advance for your help

Bit of a story from a New Guy!

    Hello all,
As a long time ground dweller, I have been enlightened to the elite group of hangers

I work with a rather strange group who travel a lot in cargo aircraft. Several months ago I hitched a ride to Fla. for a day trip. As I sat in a very uncomfortable seat and quickly noticed that several of the crew set up Hammocks for the ride! As I sat in my chair I thought to my self... WOW that looks extremely comfortable As soon as I arrived home that evening I began the search for one for myself! The next day I decided on the ENO Double Nest!

I was hooked and still am... I dabble in the DIY projects of all sorts I decided to make my own hammock (pics posted soon) witch works fabulously well! I did a Google search and ran across Shug's YouTube post eventually leading me to the Forums... So her I am and hope to learn much more and possibly share some stories and what knot!

    Very cool cja.

    For me:
    Age + old low-back injury = hammock.

I couldn't stand sleeping on the ground when I was 15 let alone nearly 50. I was thrilled to learn about camping hammocks to say the least.

All I can say is after a long hard hike this weekend for 3 nights my knees were tired at days end and after a night in the hammock I awoke with the knees of a teenager......
