I made hammocks out of old bedsheets as a kid. When I was in the Army, instead of sleeping in the vehicles, I would sleep in a hammock I brought with me. I love the feel and the sound sleep I get in a hammock. This past weekend, I took the plunge and made my first hammock designed by Scott at Backwoodsdaydreamer.com. I think I'm hooked.

I saw some nice GT hammocks in an outdoor store. They were all super light and small (and on sale), and I thought that would be fun. I did a little research and bought one-love it!

I just happened to stumble across hammock camping, brought it up to a co worker. Turns out he made his own and had been up in the BW as well. Last year it just didn't work out to get one before our annual trip. Just ordered my first a couple days ago. Haven't even used it yet and I'm already addicted ;-)

I love being outdoors and hiking/camping even though I don't do it that often. I started a tradition when my son was about four or five to go camping every year on his birthday(this year he'll be 13) and we've done it every year sometimes more, just him and I. I could never get comfortable on the ground. I decided to buy a hammock and brought it on one trip just to relax in while at camp. Early one morning after a night of barely sleeping at all in the tent I decided to crawl into the hammock around 4 am, and promptly fell asleep. Thats all it took! I bought a bug net and tarp for that hammock, and now this year I wanted to go lighter and bought all new gear. I even got a hammock for my son to see if he likes hanging instead of tenting. Thanks Hennessy for the free Cub! I'm hoping to get out many times this year! Thanks everyone for all the info and tips it has really helped!

Born out of necessity! I simply don't sleep well on the ground, even with a mattress. My wife got me a hammock, which I'd been contemplating for a while and I love it! It's also much more fun!!

well I started by wanting something for an emergency/ camp pack, I got a hammock because of the size and like others said the light weight. started in a cheap hammock about $50 wich works great, but after waching all the good vids on yt I quickly upgraded to the wb bb and I just love it!!

I am new to this forum and to hanging. Just got a HH Asym and gave it a try this past season. I took the plunge after encountering a few section and thru hikers who were hanging as well. A bit of research and an encounter with Dos Isles on her thru hike and I took the plunge. 1st hang and 1st severe thunderstorm same night. Still better than being in the mud. Hoping to improve my hanging ability and system this year. Weight was main reason for change over from tent. Comfort and ease have been my reward.
