A few months ago i went on a trip with some of my friends and one of them had a hammock. Everyone else's (including me) were in tents, it looked pretty cool to me so I asked if I could try it out and he let me. As soon as i laid down in it i fell in love. The rest of that night i was asking him about it and soon enough he told me to go ahead and try it for the night to see how i like it. Long story short from now on ill probably only use a tent if absolutely needed.
The ling and short of it is a buddy told me how great it is. Then the last time slept in a lean-to my hips and rib were so sire that I've decided to try hanging nice I'm excited about hoe modular I can made my hammock and the greater freedom of sites I can set up in.
Used to be a great tent camper in my youth, sleep on rugs indoors no problem. now less than 2 decades later I get very stiff and sore on anything but my own bed.
Wife isn't a camper but we're planning a 7 day hike, she googled and then introduced me to hammocks. 30 seconds in hers was all it took for me to order my own HH from MEC.
Camping I'd always be awake at 7am and done sleeping due to the hard ground. Last hang I had to force myself to get up at 11:30, I'm sure I could have slept much longer.
Looking for something smaller to pack in the Kayak and Backpack.
Went out hiking last week-end to see the fall colors. It rained and the temp dropped to it 32 at night and we had a great time!
On the ground, I'm a restless sleeper and never get a good night's sleep.
In my hammock, I usually sleep straight through the night (OK, there's usually a pee break in there sometime).
I also like the camp craft that's involved with hammocking (rigging, knots, tarps, etc.)
I was cruising YouTube and ran across this crazy ginger rolling around in a hammock and said to myself-- if he's representative of the kind of people that use hammocks... I'm in. Three hammocks and countless DIY hammock related projects later I carry a hammock everywhere. We have a nice 25' RV and I haven't slept in it but a few times since. My 7 year old and I sleep in the hammocks in our backyard just about once a week. It's fun, it's fast, and it's cheap. My thanks to Shug for taking the time and energy making all those videos.
Nothing I do is done by popular demand.

After my hip replacement I just can't sleep on the ground anymore. So a hammock made the most sense.
One word! "Shug" need I say more?
