Hardware throw down ...whats your favorite?

Got most of my rigs converted over to amsteel loops for Dutch Hooks on whoopies with straps.

Makes for light, simple, and interchangeable suspension choices. I'm very happy with it.

Dutch finally made something simple enough for me, a guy who found a way to screw up Dutch Buckles. (Look at the avatar again. Reread that sentence again)

Yeah... that Dutch guy is THAT amazing. A lightweight, nearly foolproof system for a self-identified fool.

If he hikes the AT again, the Fool Scout High Altitude Ice Cream Sandwich patrol will be dispatched in gratitude.

I'm not so sure about carbon toggles eh.

Yesterday I got my new ones in the mail...and today I already managed to break them

The marlin spike hitch does squeeze the toggle a fair bit...so even though it doesnt have to bear load...it has to be able to handle the compression from the knot.

Hardware throw down...whats your favorite way to connect a tree strap to amsteel...and why?

I'm not sure if the attached picture came through...but here is whats on my hardware list. I have these ordered from heaviest to lightest...I think...my scale is kinda crappy. The weights listed are those that my scale reads...so I apologize in advance if I mess them up.

1. Biner- 26g

2. Square cinch buckle- 26g

3. SMC decending rings- 22g

4. triangle cinch buckles- 17g

5. Elaphant trunk-17g

6. Tri Glides-10g

7. Dutch Buckle- 10g

8. Home made toggle- 8g

9. BIAS Carbon toggle- 2g

Where does one get an elephant trunk?

i took an old arrow, carbon fiber? and cut it into two 2 in sections, easy and lightweight. pretty strong too!

i made mine, from an arrow. and from what i can tell they seam to be a little stronger then what are sold as toggles. idk if im right or not but mine havent bent or broke yet, i sleep with them nightly even in the house, just makes things simple for me.

Winter - Triangle cinch buckle. Ease of use makes this my go to when frozen hands are expected. Loosening them can be a challenge but I just disconnect the dutch clip at the tree before packing and loosen. That way I only need to tighten them at setup.

3 season - Elephant trunk. More secure and harder to loose than a toggle. With whoopie slings I rarely need to move the e-trunk.

I like the elephant trunk, just hook on the whoopie and adjust it. The et usually doesn't need adjustment on the webbing.

Mmmm I larkshead my (fixed) eye of the whoopie to the strap/hugger...

The whoopie and strap/hugger go around the tree, through the other eye on the strap/hugger towards the hammock.

But the moving/adjustable eye of the whoopie connects to the hammock with a biner (1 Oz, 28 grams). I clip my pack to it, it acts as a drip ring and I already heave it...... maybe when I grow up something Dutch
