    DIY PLUQ Based Yeti Clone

Ever left home without a quilt and sometime around 2:00 AM wish you had a thin layer of warmth between your hind-side and the elements?

I have two Yetis and love them. However, I live in the lower bowels of Alabama, and the shoulder seasons in my neck of the woods don't always call for the 20 degree UQ. You can, of course, move the UQ around to vent it, etc...but, I prefer not to subject my high dollar UQs to any more wear and tear than needed.

This was an easy project to do and there is actually enough material in one poncho liner to make two of these...or a double layer if that is more to your liking. Again, I was shooting for a thin, lightweight layer to use when my 20 degree Yeti is overkill.

I made the draft collars out of parachute silk and stuffed them with batting I had left over after I made my daughter a body-pillow for Christmas.

Here are the pics. The construction steps should be self explanatory. It took me just under a day to complete with lots of breaks.

Total weight is 12.5 ounces with suspension.

Thanks Black Wolf. It's funny that as soon as I finished this project the JC Penny Puffer Coat idea hit the street.

Oh Well, after buying a bunch of those I suppose I can juice this UQ up with an optional layer while I contemplate my next DIY UQ and TQ.

This hammock habit is a great hobby and this forum is a great place to hang out in for awesome ideas.

    Thanks again.

Wow. That looks a lot better than the one I made. Course I don't know how to sew. I borrowed a machine from someone but could not get,it to work.. Needed someone to show me what I was doing wrong. I see your in Dothan, I'm not far from you. Let me know if you would like to make another one to sell. I can provide the poncho liner. Great work!!

Hey Brigsby, if you supply the materials I will be happy to sew one up for you.

I just ordered a couple liners for a "fair weather" pair of UQ's for my son & I. I figured on the sewn PLUQ but just currious, what temps are you comfortable in with your single layer you have here. And I like the draft collars you've implemented.

Good looking work, Grapenut. Have you tried to see how low you can go with it? Looks like it fits well.

I had it on my blackbird and 50 degrees was easily tolerable for me (*daylight on a sunny day in the shade).
